Chairman of Shanghai Maritime University Council and Director of MTCC-Asia Prof. Yongxing Jin headed a delegation to attend the 2018 Georgia International Maritime Forum (GIMF2018) held in 10-14 September, at the port city of Batumi, Georgia.
GIMF2018 was opened by IMO Secretary General Mr. Kitack Lim. In this remarks to the Forum, he called for raising awareness within the region and beyond, of the indispensability of shipping, and of the critical need of healthy oceans and a delicate balance to ensure shipping go a long way to sustain.
Under the Panel of Blue Growth, Maritime Clusters and Major Projects, Prof. Jin was invited to contribute his views and showcase the roles MTCC has played as an example of major projects in the region to support the sustainable growth of shipping. The panel was opened by Ms Tamara Ioseliani, Director of Georgia Maritime Transport Agency.
As one of important outcomes of GIMF2018, the Host Institute of MTCC-Asia Shanghai Maritime University signed MoU with Batumi State Maritime University, with the vision of strengthening cooperation in education and capacity building.
Under the patronage of Prime Minister of Georgia, the GIMF2018 brought together high-level representatives of the maritime sector from different countries and regions, and provided a dialogue between shipping personalities and environmentalists, addressing issues of the global and regional critical goals including 2030 SGDs and blue economy and growth.
