The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will jointly organize, with financial support from Norway, a Maritime Zero- and Low-Emission Innovation Forum in September 2021. The aim of the forum is to exchange best practice between competent international policy makers, maritime, climate change/environmental administrations, technology developers, maritime industry, ports, and finance to catalyze collaboration and innovation for climate action in maritime sector.
MTCC Asia was invited to the Steering Committee of the Innovation Forum and joined the first Committee Members meeting on 18th February,2021, with colleagues from IMO, UNEP/UNEP FI, Norway, MTCC Caribbean and MTCC Africa. Head of MTCC Asia Prof. Wei Ruan contributed his professional input to the suggested topics of the Forum and shared practical experience in running major events in Asia. Members of Committee discussed and agreed on the preliminary structure and content of the agenda, dates and other logistical arrangements.
This Innovation Forum is the first in a series of future global, regional and national events aimed at championing innovation to accelerate the transition where an emphasis will be given to north-south and south-south collaboration for promoting innovation in developing countries and especially in SIDS and LDCs.
